29th Annual Dawn of a Dream Gala
Benefiting Children's Cancer Research Fund
From the darkness of a cocoon emerged the butterfly at the 29th annual Dawn of a Dream™
Against an elegant Asian backdrop, more than 800 guests gathered at the Depot in Minneapolis on November 7 for another successful Dawn of a Dream. Guests bid on silent and live auction items, took their chance on several experiences, gave generously to three research projects, and learned about the leadership, results and faster cures their donations create at the University of Minnesota.
With grace and wit Emcee Jearlyn Steele guided guests through a poignant program that highlighted the exceptional work that Children’s Cancer Research Fund invests, and she introduced several audience members who were currently battling, or have survived childhood cancer. The presentation culminated in a beautiful duet version of The Prayer, where Jearlyn sung with seasoned opera singer Lola Watson. Then she gave the crowd an excuse to dance, leading them in a group Electric Slide. The Irresistibles, lead by Mick Sterling kept them dancing until midnight.
Through the tireless efforts of co-chairs Cindy Chandler and Renée LeJeune Hallberg, their steering committee, dedicated volunteers and Martin Bastian and the generosity of corporate and community partners and attendees, the event generated over $700,000. Thank you to all who contributed to this magical evening.
