Dr. Logan Spector Named First “Award for Excellence” Recipient

A rising star in the field of epidemiology.

Children’s Cancer Research Fund has named Dr. Logan Spector, Assistant Professor, Division of Pediatric Epidemiology & Clinical Research, the first recipient of its Award of Excellence in Childhood Cancer Research. The award was formally presented at the Children’s Cancer Research Fund Board meeting on Jan. 23.

This research award was created to recognize exceptional University of Minnesota Medical School faculty performance in the Divisions of Pediatric Epidemiology & Clinical Research and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Blood & Marrow Transplantation. The award will be presented to individuals who have shown outstanding, sustained research performance as measured by continued acquisition of external research grants, exceptional publication history, and development of internal or external collaborations.

Children’s Cancer Research Fund Board co-chairs Drs. John Wagner and Julie Ross select award recipients as warranted. Award recipients receive a research grant from Children’s Cancer Research Fund.

“In just a few years into his career, Logan received two National Cancer Institute grants totally approximately $4 million to investigate the causes of hepatoblastoma and osteosarcoma,” says Dr. Julie Ross. “He is a rising star.”
