Teach Kids the Dangers of Tobacco Use
Starting to smoke at a young age indicates a greater likelihood of smoking into adulthood.
You probably already know the dangers of tobacco use - but it's important to talk with children at an early age to help them understand the serious health risks. The younger children start to smoke, the more likely they will remain a smoker during adulthood. Research has shown that avoiding tobacco use during adolescence significantly decreases the chance for smoking in the future.
Cigarette smoking causes significant health problems among children and adolescents, including:
- Increased incidences of respiratory illnesses
- Decreased physical fitness
- Higher risk for cardiovascular disease
- Decreased lung growth and function
- Increased risk for several different types of cancer
How you can help:
Talk to your kids about the dangers of smoking or using other forms of tobacco. By keeping children from ever using tobacco products, you can help protect their health and significantly reduce their risk of contracting lung cancer and several different types of cancer.
