As we celebrate the holiday season, we wish to take a moment to thank our many volunteers and donors who continue to support young patients and their families through their gift of time, but most of all their compassion.

Last year, family, unit/clinic volunteers devoted more than 4,000 hours of their time to offer care, support and encouragement to our patients and their families. Family volunteers work directly with individual families and unit/clinic volunteers spend time patients during their hospital stays or clinic visits.

Our volunteers may sit with a young patient in the clinic while mom and dad confer with their doctor or drive families to the airport for their long-awaited trip home. Others may help a patient keep up with his or her school work so they don’t fall behind their classmates. One creative unit volunteer even displayed his artistic talent by painting the windows of a newly admitted patient.

Throughout the year, generous organizations and individuals provide resources for our many events throughout the year. A number of local restaurants provide a buffet meal each month to families, Tank Goodness Cookies delivers home-baked cookies to patients and families once per month and employees at Target and General Mills create colorful blankets. General Mills also donates snacks for Care Bags given to families as they begin their treatment journey.

Every week, new books are distributed to all pediatric patients and families through our continuing partnership with Burnsville’s Barnes and Noble Bookstore. Rocket USA, Inc. and Macy’s donate assorted stuffed animals. Minneapolis and St. Paul Visitors Bureaus donate local visitor guides along with tickets to various sporting or cultural events, which are always welcomed by families looking for a break from daily hospital life.

Volunteers are always eager to help with the seasonal holiday parties as well as the annual Butterfly Art Contest that allow our patients to express their creativity and ingenuity. Each summer, Picnic of Hope owes much of its success to Kiddywampus, Picnic Pleasers, in addition to our wonderful volunteers and staff.

We are inspired by the incredible amount of care and kindness shown to our patients and families by volunteers and donors who are excited to support the one-of-a-kind Care Partners program that touches families in personal and meaningful way. Thank you!

Sincerely,
Teresa Turner and Alex Thwaites
