Through support of quality of life programs, long-term care for childhood cancer survivors and educating the public about childhood cancer, Children’s Cancer Research Fund is making a difference in the life of cancer patients now while preparing for the future.
Education Initiative: Creating Advocates of Childhood Cancer Research
The Children’s Cancer Research Fund Education Initiative seeks to support those touched by childhood cancer and the people who are passionate about the cause by providing information about research topics such as childhood cancer survivorship, umbilical cord blood donations and the basics of stem cell biology. With generous corporate sponsorship from Target Corporation and Media Networks, Inc., our education message generated more than 75 million impressions nationwide in FY2007.
Care Partners: Quality of Life Through Dedicated Volunteers
Care Partners is a one-of-a-kind volunteer program that provides nonmedical support to the families of pediatric hematology/oncology and blood or marrow transplant patients at the University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital, Fairview. Care Partners has served nearly 2,600 families since its establishment in 1983 and currently has 125 active volunteers who provided more than 3,600 support hours last year, helping families, spending time with patients, providing computer and Internet access, and running the Care Partners Book Cart Program.
Survivorship Clinic: Long-Term Care for Childhood Cancer Survivors
The Children’s Cancer Research Fund Long-Term Follow-Up Clinic provides consultation for survivors of childhood and adolescent cancer—regardless of age or where they received initial treatment—and health care providers. The clinic also conducts ongoing research in an effort to improve understanding of the late effects of cancer therapy and to minimize their impact on the health, wellness and quality of life of childhood cancer survivors.
