Children's Cancer Research Fund & The Bohannon Group of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network

The Bohannon Group of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network has a mission to help people align their actions with their values through the organization’s core values of growth, relationships, integrity and passion. The Bohannon Group’s support of Children’s Cancer Research Fund is an example of aligning its own behavior with the things it values as a company.
“Relationships are very important to us, so it’s natural for us to be involved in our community through organizations such as Children’s Cancer Research Fund,” says Tim Bohannon, Managing Partner of The Bohannon Group. “We are fortunate to be part of a company that takes pride in being connected with clients throughout their lives. That long-term perspective helps us to understand that even a small investment can lead to tremendous returns long into the future.”
Northwestern Mutual has been offering financial management services in Southern Minnesota and Western Wisconsin since 1883. In September 1998, Tim Bohannon became managing partner for the area’s four offices, which had 60 full-time advisors. Since then, the group has grown to more than 120 advisors and eight offices, including the network office in Eagan and district offices in Edina, Mankato, Marshall, and Rochester, Minn.; as well as Eau Claire, Hudson, and La Crosse, Wis.
According to Bohannon, the organization cares deeply about providing people and communities with the means to build a bright future. “We feel it is important to be involved, individually as well as collectively, with groups throughout our community,” he says.
The Bohannon Group first became involved with Children’s Cancer Research Fund in 2004. Financial advisor Mike Hoffman, a childhood cancer survivor, was actively involved in the Children’s Cancer Research Fund and passionate about helping kids. “We realized how much this cause has affected people close to our families, and we decided to donate money from our company’s annual charity events to Children’s Cancer Research Fund,” recalls Bohannon.
Since 2004, through an annual golf tournament and other donations The Bohannon Group has raised nearly $75,000 for the cause. Through a partnership with Final Stretch, Inc., a race management company, the organization annually donates $1 per participant to the Children’s Cancer Research Fund Time to Fly™ Walk/Run. In addition, employees support the charity by working the phone bank at the annual KS95 for Kids® Radiothon.
The Bohannon Group of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network plans to always, in some way, continue its commitment to helping Children’s Cancer Research Fund eradicate childhood cancer. “The more our financial advisors are exposed to Children’s Cancer Research Fund and its needs, the more passionate they become about helping kids affected by cancer,” says Bohannon. “We view this as an important cause, and we realize the difference we can make by supporting this research.”
