Meet Our Teams
Each of us has a story. We all want a cure.
Over the course of the next 10 weeks, we’ll be highlighting 10 Time to Fly teams who represent the many people affected by childhood cancer. These ten teams include childhood cancer survivors, nurses who care for children with cancer, scientists who work in research labs, and families who have lost children. Like all of our Time to Fly teams, they are passionately committed to finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Your Donation At Work
A cure for cancer begins with a researcher’s bold idea. Children’s Cancer Research Fund is the champion for bold research that leads to life-saving cures for childhood cancer and other deadly diseases that affect children.
Our unique entrepreneurial approach turns every dollar invested into $15 to $20 in additional national funding, by backing a research team world renowned for innovative approaches. Together, we are changing the way childhood cancer is treated worldwide.
Our partners – researchers and doctors at the University of Minnesota – are not only aggressively developing research aimed at understanding the causes of childhood cancer and developing novel ways to treat it, but are delivering exceptional care to young patients.
Through our investment in cures, we’re making big strides for children with cancer. Here are some of the recent discoveries donations to Children’s Cancer Research Fund made possible:
- Launched a clinical trial for a brain tumor vaccine to curb the deadliest childhood cancer
- Proved that use of two units of umbilical cord blood significantly reduces leukemia relapse
- Improved outcomes for children with Rhabdomyosarcoma through our new treatment standards
- Discovered that survivors are at risk for cardiovascular disease and should be diligent about their heart health
- Delivered more than 4,000 hours of non-medical support to young patients and their families
Every gift brings us closer to a cure for childhood cancer. Here are some examples of your donations at work in a cancer research lab:
- $100: could buy 100 assorted racks to keep our state-of-the-art cancer research labs fully stocked.
- $250: could buy a package of 100 assorted flasks, which are essential in research laboratories.
- $500: could purchase a basic microscope, and help ensure that our researchers always have the newest technology.
- $1,000: could buy 5 refrigerator units to store hundreds of cell samples.
- $2,500: could purchase 5 microfuge machines that are used to isolate DNA and RNA to study how genes play a role in cancer development.
- $5,000: could help operate the Children’s Cancer Research Fund-supported Long Term Follow Up Clinic for two weeks. This clinic is focused on addressing unique challenges of children and young adults who have survived cancer.
- $10,000: could buy 3 ultra-low temperature freezers used to store stem cell samples.
Why should you join us at Time to Fly?
Because… a child should never have to spend part of his/her childhood fighting cancer in a hospital, instead of on the playground with friends.
Because… when other doctors say, “There’s nothing else we can do.”, our doctors say, “We have an idea.”
Because… the ONLY way we will find a cure for childhood cancer is through research. Period.
Because… the discoveries that Children’s Cancer Research Fund makes possible, have an impact not only on the treatment of childhood cancers, but also on adult cancers, genetic diseases, diabetes and even heart disease.
Because… without a community of committed champions – like our Time to Fly participants – new discoveries that save young lives would simply not be possible.
